My Baby Bump Journal: Week 39

[39 weeks!]

So last week I made a quick decision to announce in my last baby bump journal that we are having a boy. The story was we wanted it to be a secret even to us. Went to hospital because of my "leakage episode", had an ultrasound and the lady said it. I was pissed and actually said, "WHAT THE FUCK...YOU BITCH! WE DIDN'T WANT TO KNOW!" But it's too late. But when I got done being mad...I was super relieved...EXCITED! Yes! I was glad to hear I'm having a third boy. I have openly said that I didn't want a baby girl. If by some miracle it was it's ok. But I honestly prefer all boys. Just my thing. Others have said oh because they are high maintenance  No, not all girls I wasn't brought up like that. I was a tomboy. I like my life simple, I hate to shop. I'm just so used to boys and I've always gotten along with boy children than girls. I just have this weird feeling I'd scare and scar my baby girl if I had one lol. But anywho...It's a BOY!!!

I've been feeling horrible one day and great with lots of energy another. I hate it. When I feel bad I really feel bad. I can't get up and when I need to get up I'm slower than a sloth. But with all that I noticed Mr. N has dropped a great deal. Its scary look when I breathe in its like the top 5 inches of my belly is flat then the rest that follows is a huge lump of baby lol. He is coming soon! I went to my prenatal apointment and they said I am still good with everything and will carry it all out naturally. It's truly crazy. A week away from my due date but again thinking with just the way my children are they will be late...My guess by March 10-12th. I guess, we'll just have to wait and see! I'm doing a lot of walking now! lol

Consignment Season

Ever since I had Max in 2008 and being a stay at home mom, I've been looking for great deals on anything. I found out about consignment sales a year before he was born and didn't think much of it. I noticed as I started burning through some of my money and not working I needed to look for another alternative. A consignment sale in my area was starting and got a few great things. [toys, few seasonal clothes.] For a great deal. Prices in consignment sales are a great deal lower. It is some lightly used items and some are new.

For some parents, it is a God sent, some don't like the idea of getting used or even lightly used items. I think it's great because kids grow so fast and go through clothes and toys. Why not get them for cheap! I do try to get a new cheap item most of the time. Also the great thing about these consignment sales you can sell your unused or lightly used baby/toddler/kid clothes, items, and toys. If you've never been to one, it's worth taking even 30 minutes to stop by a local consignment sale and checking it out.

My Baby Bump Journal: Week 38

[so...its a BOY!]

[TED: Conception to Birth]

I absolutely love this! I'm a big fan of TED and their talks. I saw this last week and thought other mamas would love seeing their journey. I can't believe I am almost there! I am 38 weeks and still pregnant. As I have weekly check ups now I remember my pregnancies with Max and Dean and can't believe how big they are right now. How this pregnancy went by so quickly and soon this third child of ours will be a year old. [that fast!] :*) I can't wait to meet this little baby!

Zombie Teething Children

[Amber Teething Necklace]

Teething children are crazy! There I said it! They are! But with all the aches and pains they have we as parents can't help but feel sorry and want to heal all their pains. There are natural remedies I have used with all my children. Sometimes it helps some times it didn't. Each children and "treatment" is different. Try everything like I did lol...it isn't going to hurt...well not for us anyways.

[Breast milk pop]

1. Chew toys. The best that worked we the long giraffe necks, long nosed elephants.
2. Wooden chew toys. Naturally coated with beeswax.
3. Cold fruits or veggies in a mesh feeder.
4. Breast milk pops! I loved it, I had extra milk and I saw the idea and tried it. Dean couldn't get enough.
5. Teething necklace I wore around my neck. So when I carried him he would chew away and or after he was done breastfeeding.
6. Hylands! They have a liquid and chew able tablets well they actually melt in your babies mouth. With all that drool I had to put more than one lol.
7. Clove oil for painful gums. You know its coming out, you see it...poor kids.
8. Amber teething necklaces. They do not chew on it is for its natural oils to going into baby's skin to provide a natural Tylenol like effect.
9. Frozen and or just cold wash cloths.
10. Slushy breast milk. It was fun but a mess lol.

Save New Jersey Pigs

They need our help! I haven't shown my love for animals but this is very close to my heart. When I was younger where my father's side of the family lived was their farm. We had a piggery. It was open and free for the pigs to run and live their life until we need them. Let them live as human as long as they can. Who wants to live in a cage all their lives? Please take a moment and share and sign up here! Glad to see this video commercial while I was watching on Hulu. Again...please take a small moment of your time to help stand up for those who have no voices...the animals like these pigs.

A Preggo's Very Valentine's Day

[My funny Valentine]

Well it started off with Max going to school and having a party. Dean and I went to the library to kill time and then we played in the back seat until Max came out. Max came out with his hands behind his back and swung it to the front real quick and gave me a red flower saying, "Happy Valentine's Day Mommy I love you! This red flower is for you!" I gave him a kiss and a hug. What a lucky Mom I was! We headed back to my mother's and had lunch with her. It was a good relaxing day.

[37 weeks & 3 days pregnant]

Night time came and we got ready and waited for Daddy to come home to take us to dinner. Chilli's our spot. Rad and I had our first date there...well a pitcher of beer drink off. Lol I'm a great cold beverage drinker that's all I'm saying. lol So as we ordered and waited for 45+ minutes...Dean woke up from his nap Max was getting antsy and our food finally came after we've inhaled the chips 15 minutes ago. My food though yummy was cold :/ I'm not much to complain but Rad said, "We don't go out much I want you to have your meal done right!" I talked nicely and wasn't mad at all and they sent me out a new meal...a HOT meal. It was great and silly Max said to the manager, "And my food is too HOT!" Rad and I couldn't help ourselves and laughed real hard at his crazy comment. I whispered  "You can wait to cool it off silly boy!"
[Our $6.00 bill at Chilli's!]

After all was done the manager came back and said don't worry we will comp your meal. When the check came out the total was $5.97. So we only ended up paying for Maxwell's meal. Amazing! We talked and we agreed that we would give the waitress her full tip because it was a busy night and it wasn't entirely her fault. We had a silly fun time out. That's all I wanted. Rad was happy to get a free meal, Max was happy to go out and eat his very "HOT!" meal, Dean was chill [we were happy about it], and I was happy I got to go out with my guys for Valentine's Day.

Valentines Day Red Velvet Whoopie Pie

Today is Valentines Day! Nothing better than to spend the day inhaling red velvet whoopie pies I baked for my family. :D I'm not much about making the day special but I do love sweets! So here it is!

What You'll Need [cookies]:
1 ounce semisweet chocolate, chopped
1/2 ounce milk chocolate, chopped
12 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup sour cream
2 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon red food coloring
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

What You'll Need [filling]:
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
1 vanilla bean, halved lengthwise and seeds scraped

Making the cookies you preheat the oven to 375. Get baking sheets out and prepped. Put semisweet and milk chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave at 50 percent power until melted, about 2 minutes. Whisk until smooth. Whisk the melted butter, sour cream, eggs, vinegar, vanilla, and food coloring in a bowl until combined. In another bowl, whisk the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in four equal batches, whisking each batch completely before adding the next. Stir in the melted chocolate. Scoop tablespoonfuls of batter onto the baking sheets and smooth the tops with a damp finger. Bake until the cookies spring back when lightly pressed, 8 to 10 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes on the baking sheets, then transfer to racks to cool completely.

Making the filling you beat the cream cheese and butter with a mixer until smooth. Beat in the confectioners' sugar and vanilla seeds. Sandwich a tablespoonful of filling between 2 cookies. Finish the remaining whoopie pies and refrigerate 30 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

My Baby Bump Journal: Week 37

Awesome picture huh?! My family and I went to my cousin's daughter Chloe 7th's birthday party! It was great. We had a mini family reunion. There were a lot of kids games and the photographer caught this fun candid photo of me cheering Max...proud Mama's competitive side showing. So other than the fun party I am 37 weeks pregnant and still sore, well getting worse by the week. They said I am still the same 2 cm and thinning. I will wait naturally and not do anything to induce labor. Better to let the baby decide when to come...though Mommy IS getting tired lol. My weekly prenatal appointments have started and I'm glad to reach the stretch and my baby is healthy. They also said s/he is measuring bigger. Lovely another big bowling head baby lol. I'm thinking somewhere in the middle of Max and Dean's birth weight solid 8 pounds. Again...I can't wait!

Breastfeeding And Nine Months Pregnant

I know I haven't been updating much about my nursing while pregnant journey. But here I am nine months pregnant had a few bumps on the road but still going strong! Nursing on demand only liquid other than water my one year old son Dean gets is Mommy's breast milk. He is happy and as am I. I met my goal of going to a year of breastfeeding. Funny how my husband said, "Meh, you'll give up just give the kid formula!" A year later, "Try to give him a bottle of milk babe" he says, "Why you've got perfectly working boobs!" "My milk in a bottle...I'm going out derh!" lol. My husband is on board full support and I couldn't believe the journey we went through as a couple too. Max my awesome 4 year old remembers drinking regular cow's milk in a bottle and asks, "Mommy was I boobie fed too?" I said yes but only for a bit. He says back to me, "Little breast is better than no breast at all Mama...thanks!" lol He cracks me up.

Back to being pregnant. It had its ups and downs that I knew that would happen. One out of the two things I dreaded happened. [1. milk drying up due to pregnancy hormones 2. i have contractions and have to stop.] I had contractions for a while and had to "stop" well ease on the nursing. I am glad to say that not only did the contractions stop...we are going strong! Baby number three is growing, heart rate's good, and s/he's a healthy baby. 37 weeks pregnant and all is fine and dandy. I couldn't ask for more!

Dean hasn't had any problems with change of taste or lack of milk. I never really had a problem with the amount of milk I produced. THANK GOD! The taste...ummm I can't answer that for you. It might have changed, but Dean is still drinking and has or had no problem whatsoever. :D We are heading to the end of my pregnancy and my next "oh-oh!" moment I'm dreading is me going to into labor in the hospital and having my two to three day's stay while Dean co sleeps with grandma the first night and the other nights with Daddy. He still prefers mommy than a bottle. We never got him used to bottles for there was no need. Also same thing with a pacifier.

As this pregnancy nears its end and a new adventure of tandem nursing starts...I'm pretty sure troubles will arise but I can't wait for what's in store. Mommy and babies bonding time here we go!

My Baby Bump Journal: Week 36

I've hit week 36...I am officially nine months pregnant. I'm at the final stretch  where anything can happen. I can give birth from now and up to 43 weeks and this baby will be perfect! I've always gotten confused on how many weeks of my pregnancy I really am in months. Awesome chart I found that even us forgetful pregnancy brained mamas can follow and figure out! lol

So as I'm 4 weeks to my due date I mentally prepare as well as physically [as much as I can] to give birth to my third child as I did my previous two. "Natural unmedicated childbirth!" I take pride in going all the way with little or to no medical aid. [ex: morphine and epidural] It's so easy to give in and take the "drugs" but my thoughts on giving birth unmedicated is not only for my personal goal/happiness but most important my child to come into the world not drugged up or "high." A clean birth for my baby is what I ultimately strive for during my labor whether it be short or long.

Last year [so crazy I just did this in o1.o8.12 hahaha] I wrote a blog post about my Natural Birth Plan! I wrote how I wanted a few tweaks to happen that didn't or I want to repeat again with #2. Again I want to state that birth is never the same, never within a mother or father's full control, and anything and I mean ANYTHING can happen. I just think positively and aim for my ultimate goal of having a unmedicated safe vaginal delivery for baby #3. I can't wait!

My tweaks for the third time around.
1. AGAIN NO MEDICATION!
2. To let me push when I wanna push. Let me the mother [the one giving birth] to be in control. I'm a freak.
3. Once s/he's out not to cut the cord until it has stopped pumping. Its to give my baby an extra push of strength and oxygen. Extra left over source of food too. :D
4. I want to hold my newborn immediately with no interference. Skin to skin warmth and letting my newborn smell mommy's scent is my aim here.
5. Breastfeed immediately! Instant bond with my newborn is important to me.
6. Let husband cut baby's cord after tweak #3 happens.
7. I want my newborn with me every second of every minute. If I'm not available  for my husband to be with the baby. With Maxwell they took him away and I didn't see him until I was situated and "rested" from giving birth in the maternity suite. With Dean only time he wasn't with me was when I had to shower and husband was taking too long lol to get there so I had a nurse stay in the room with Dean as I showered.

My first time around I wasn't as clearly educated and well spoken on my wants. I am glad with my second I did all my research and read all my proper articles and came to the conclusion I wanted to happen, and IT HAPPENED. Of course again a few minor details were not as solid as I wanted but all 1 through 7 of my tweaks were met with Dean. And I plan for that to happen with our third child. I am truly excited and not nervous/scared at all. I just want to met my surprise third baby and can't wait to start our lives off the way only my OCD habits can dream of! :D

I keep things simple and to the point. I know a lot of things can go in many different directions, but all I pray for is a healthy plump baby! My dream, my plan, and my goals. I hope it happens the way I write it. Let this be set in stone! hehehe...Baby Mama is waiting and I can't wait to look into your eyes and feel Heaven for the third time around!

New Vaccine Schedule 0-18 For 2013

The American Academy of Pediatrics has come out with a new vaccine schedule. There has been an increasing number of families who over the years delay and we are one of those families. We still think that vaccinations are important, but we read about them and make sure it's what we want for our children. You know when my husband and I were little [not so long ago lol] we had half the number of vaccination that were deemed necessary than today for our children. We turned out fine we are not dying of some weird diseases and most of all we are healthy and producing healthy children. Do our children need more vaccination  I personally don't think they do. We do our research and choose to delay our children's vaccinations. Our own terms...we are not saying we are opposing any or all, but we do look into them.

Being pregnant is another thing. There are vaccinations that my OB says I SHOULD GET...like flu shot. I remember having it done when I was pregnant with Maxwell and thought nothing much about it. So my thought the second time around being pregnant with Dean...Yeah sure I'll get it but I did my research and decided to wait. I eventually got it but with all vaccination  nothing is full proof. I still got sick Max still got sick. Third time being pregnant, I decided to get it but delayed. Got sick again Max and Dean got sick. I think something simple as the flu, if its going to happen, its going to happen. Healthy prevention is key.

As for this new vaccine schedule The American Academy of Pediatrics came out with, it effects babies [for me babies #2 & #3.] Also they've changed vaccinations from ages 4-6 [being more relaxed before] to saying its more important now to enforce them. [meaning Max would have to get more.] This is silly, it doesn't just affect little babies, newborns to toddler hood ..it affects all our children up to age 18! My thoughts is to read up on all the vaccination when they say it's time to give them and voice your opinion.

So what are your thoughts parents and parents to be? Does your family delay vaccinations like our family? Or choose what types of vaccinations to give your children?

Nesting To Do List

So this being my third pregnancy, I thought I'd be all over and done with preparing baby cloths, newborn diapers, and whatever else I need to set up before s/he comes. Honest truth this whole "nesting" feeling has not hit me at all. With Max I was ready three months early... excitement I guess. As for Dean two months prior everything was set. Now with just a month left I should be scrambling or getting flustered. But I'm not.

Nesting...makes it sound like I'm a bird getting my little nest ready for my little eggs to be housed in. Well I'm not a bird, a chicken, I'm human. Being human we tend to have this little thing happen to us called PROCRASTINATION. It's not a pretty site especially when the mommy has two other kiddies running a muck in the house and nothing is yet well organized. I tried I really did. It's like with every pregnancy, my nesting would become a month less of preparation. Sighs!

NESTING TO DO LIST!
1. wash baby clothes and organize in drawer and closet.
2. prep/strip newborn cloth diapers and arrange in proper bins. CHECK!

3. get mini co sleeper. CHECK!
4. get double jogging all terrain stroller. [I can wait for that until late spring]
5. pack hospital bag. CHECK!
6. get max and dean "BIG BRO" shirts to wear when they visit in the hospital. CHECK!
7. get baby a going home outfit. CHECK!

Five out of seven being done with a month left or you never know the baby could come tomorrow lol. I'm just glad I don't have to worry about baby formula and its useless bottles and washing them ughk. Breast milk again for number three! Let's just hope I get it all done by two weeks. FUN!

Be Part Of The Film Bottled Up Mosaic's

February 1st I wrote a quick blog post about an awesome film called Bottled Up. An amazing documentary about formula and breastfeeding. Pros and cons about the business of marketing
formula. Truly an eye opener. A great film for first time parents, not just first time mothers. A great way to help launch this film out is The Madonna Mosaic. The painting of Da Vinci's nursing Madonna transformed into a mosaic of nursing mothers. A wonderful idea! The first 3000 mother-baby photos will be used to create a 21st Century digital mosaic. Share this blog post and help finish this wonderful project. [the film] Here is the facebook event page Mosaic that gives more information and how to help!

Be a part of the mosaic here!

Happy Groundhog Day

Happy Groundhog Day! I don't know about you guys, but I'm hoping for spring weather like last week! lol. With the weather here in New Jersey has been in the 20's or even in its teens, I'm wanting the warmth of spring to come. So, I asked Max if he wanted it to be warm or cold weather. "Warm Mama! I wanna swim!" Well there you go!

Here's a little history about Groundhog Day...
It's a day celebrated on February 2nd. If its cloudy when a groundhog comes out of its hole, then spring will come early. If it's sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and the cold winter weather will continue for six more weeks.

Potty Training

Potty training honestly scares me. I got real lucky with Maxwell. With no coercion, he self potty trained himself at age 15 months. Our trip to California to visit my grandmother is when he finalized his training. [pooping in the toilet.] I do not ever force my children to do anything. I let them decide when the right time for them is, whether it be potty training or riding a bike.

Now that Dean is a year old and heading in the same direction as his older brother showing cues and interest with the toilet...it scares me. I would love for the same thing to happen with Max quick and painless. Like I never had to do anything but sit back and watch...marvel at how amazingly smart and intuitive they are with knowing when to go. But each child is different. Again, I will not force anything on Dean. I don't want to start potty training him either when number three will be born. I will be forced to cut the training short and can possibly have a horrible kick back effect. I will let "nature take its course." :D

There is this article online I came across and confused me so much. About how some parents are actually potty training at the very young age of 9 months. With whistle training as they go. It reminds me of training my puppy to pee...I whistle trained him. How odd. I don't think it's right for my family to force a child to potty train at a very early age for the soul reason of saving money. Yes! the parent's main reason in the article is to save money on diapers. Not sure what the stats are on the parents if it's only disposable diaper using families. I know in the cloth diapering community, most don't train until their children show cues/signs of potty training. Here's the link to the article...forced potty training.

There is also another group of parents/families that not a lot of us know about that practice elimination communication. Using cues and signs to potty train their children...from birth. It is not a common practice here in America that I know of. Mostly used in non diapered less industrialized countries and hunter-gatherer cultures. Knowing the rhythm of your child/children training them from birth is pretty amazing in these cultures but its not forced which I think is okay. Not for my family due to the stresses of daily life and crazy schedules. We will stick to cloth diapers and non coerced potty training. Also a great site to find more information about [EC] elimination communication. What are your thoughts parents? Leave a comment...I'd love to hear your input.

The Film Bottled Up

As you all well know I am a "lactivist!" I believe breast IS best. But if there are reasons a mother can't that's okay too. But here comes a great documentary about the business of marketing formula to our children and how breastfeeding is a better choice. Just like the docu film The Business of Being Born told us about our choices of giving birth Bottled Up is a great informative film that opens the minds of American mothers and mothers to be. I can't wait to watch it!

"In the US 75% of all mothers attempt to breastfeed, but a startling few succeed. Despite overwhelming evidence that it is the healthiest way to feed a baby, a meager 15% of American women successfully breastfeed."
